One thing users will notice in Windows 7 is the lack of a quick launch feature. The quick launch has always been a staple feature in the old Windows OS (XP and Vista). Located in the taskbar, the quick launch opens programs quickly with a single click. Windows 7 has disabled the quick launch feature as the new OS integrated both the features of the quick launch and the old taskbar into a new taskbar. However, users may still want the old quick launch toolbar in Windows 7. The following are the steps on enabling the quick launch toolbar in Windows 7.

The first step is to unlock the taskbar. You may do this by right-clicking on the taskbar and disabling the "Lock the Taskbar" feature.

The second step is to right-click on the taskbar again. Hover on the Toolbars section and then select New Toolbar.

Clicking on New Toolbar will prompt the user to choose a folder for the new toolbar. The next step is to enter the following address: %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch and then click "Select Folder".

The Quick Launch toolbar should appear on the right side of the taskbar. The next step is to customize the toolbar. In order for it to function properly, right-click on the Quick Launch toolbar and disable both "Show Text" and "Show Title", while enabling "Small Icons".

Now drag the Quick Launch toolbar to the left side of the taskbar or wherever you see fit. Once you find a right spot, place shortcuts of programs in the Quick Launch toolbar, and rearrange them before right-clicking and locking the Taskbar.

Enabling the Quick launch toolbar in Windows 7 may improve your navigation and help you save some space in the taskbar. Whichever it may be, quick launch will provide just that.
