Commenting in PHP is a valuable tool that allows programmers to go back though code and decipher the logic of the script. It can also be used to comment out code that is not needed but may be needed later on. This way you can keep the code in a non-active state for later reference.

There are few ways to comment out code in PHP. You can use double forward slashes // or single forward slash followed by a asterix /**.

To comment out a single line you can use the //:

// this is the PHP code being commented out

If you want to comment out several lines of code use the /**

/**
This is
several lines
of PHP code
that is being
commented out
**/

In the above example, you can see that you have to end the comment with **/. If you don't do this everything after /** will be commented out and your code will not work. So make sure to close the comment.
