One way of installing windows over the network is through the use of RIS or Remote Installation Services. However, you must have the following prerequisites in order to install Windows over the network. A SERVER-DNS (Domain Name Server) for locating directories, a DHCP Server to give addresses to boot-enabled computers, and an Active Directory for locating machines and RIS servers.

On a Windows Server, access the wizard for adding remote programs.  Depending on the version of your OS, make sure that you have enabled Remote Installation Services.

Copy all the necessary files for installation of the Operating system to the server. This will enable you to set up RIS services by running the set-up wizard. You may do this by typing the following command below.

run: RISetup.exe

Enter the server directory where the RIS will be installed. Also you need to make sure that your file system is NTFS and has around 800 MB to 1 GB free space.

The RIS set-up wizard will allow you to respond to requests sent and it will ask you to enter the location of the installation files and the directory name for the workstation files. Follow the instructions to complete the RIS Installation and then exit the wizard. The next step is to authorize RIS within the Active Directory buy logging in as the Admin of the domain. Access DHCP on your computer and make sure that the server name is authorized.

Also, specify the users that have permission to connect to the domain. This is an important step to ensure that only authorized computers may avail to the installation service of RIS.

You should then reboot the client computer by using PXE boot ROM and then press F12 to start installation wizard. Type the appropriate user and domain name to show the account and global unique ID of the workstation. This will begin the set up by Windows and request for a Product Key. Log in to the network using the given account and password.

Congratulations! Installation is now complete and you have successfully installed windows over a network.
